I know, I know, my blog posts are overdue...I'm giving myself a lecture as I'm blogging...this summer has been the busiest one yet, with work + life...I'm working on updating my website and creating a completely new blog, while shooting weddings and teaching a wedding photography course...and trying to get in a little time with my husband...we did find some time to paint the garage door, definitely an improvement and worth the $34 for the can of paint...I will post some photos of our new digs...just add it to my to do list!

Cathy + Tony's engagement shoot was all about this fantastic couple, with apparent chemistry and do I even need to add, they are stunning together...and total naturals in front of the camera...combine that with the beautiful, warm light of a sunset...and below are the results...dreamy!

This wedding day started off a little off...for me at least, I forgot my entire purse at home including my wallet [driver's licence] and cell phone...I know two must haves...so as I got to Anna's parents house...I was thinking...hmm what else will not go my way today...As I finished shooting, I realized the day went perfectly, from the gorgeous bride and groom to their awesome friends and family to the beautiful weather that accompanied us all day long...it was a perfect day!

I fell in love with Anna + Steven the first day I met them, they were easy going and we just clicked, I loved all of the details of their wedding...from the first look to their laughter at the reception and everything in between... Congratulations you two!

The Bride's gown was stunning...raw silk...and completely different...Anna was a glamorous mix of old Hollywood [hair and makeup] plus this gorgeous contemporary gown, what a fantastic combo.

Valerie + Derek • Caledon Golf and Country Club • Caledon Wedding Photography

I photographed Valerie + Derek's awesome engagement session earlier this year at the Badlands...their summer wedding took place not too far away, both the ceremony and reception were held at the scenic Caledon Golf + Country Club. Valerie and Derek planned for an outdoor ceremony, under a beautiful gazebo with a river behind them...but the weather had other ideas, and so the ceremony was moved inside. Even though the couple went to plan B, the ceremony was beautiful. We snuck the entire group out for some photos, and then the rain came down again...so again plan B...a willing couple, some nifty umbrellas, a best man and maid of honour who truly deserve their titles, and one wet photographer later produced some awesome photos.

Enjoy the sneak peek...Val + Derek...CONGRATS!...you guys are troopers and made my job way easy but not letting the wacky weather get to you.

Every girl has to have a blingy pair of shoes...comfortable or not...Valerie, these were some serious heels!

I loved the backdrop the hotel room provided...the gown just popped!

From Birkenstock to stilettos...Valerie totally worked both looks...I loved it!

The girls were so excited to see Valerie...and of course as soon as they did, Valerie was waving off tears.

I adore this photo of Valerie's mom, she was in complete admiration of her little girl.

I love delicious favours...these gorgeous gold boxes contained superb little morsels of chocolate! [YUMM]

All of the details were fabulous, the colours were beautiful... fuchsia, aubergine, creams and of course a little sparkle!

A few last minute touch ups before the ceremony...

Even with the looming clouds...we could not be stopped...Derek has a quiet, sophisticated confidence about him...a man of a few words...he looked sharp!

Rylan + Ari • Palais Royale, Toronto • Toronto Wedding Photography

This is a long overdue post...but so worth the wait...my husband [Yancy] and I have moved [YAY!] at the start of July, needless to say it's been a bit hectic, with a couple of leaky toilets + some much needed maintenance on the house, which we are figuring will continue for the next little while [it's a whole lot more work than a condo]. We are so very excited to have more space and to take on this fantastic new project...I love new adventures and this is going to be another fun filled chapter in our lives...plus I'll get a sweet home office out of it...sometime soon - hopefully!

All right, back to the post…this series of photos is all about Rylan + Ari, I met Anny, Rylan’s mom at the Fall wedding show in 2009, and she booked me on the spot…I did not meet Rylan + Ari until their wedding day...which was exciting! The wedding day was beautiful, Rylan and Ari are one of the sweetest couples I’ve met, and from the start I felt as if I had known them for a while, they are down to earth, kind and always, always smiling which is completely contagious [+ they high-five each other – and that is just plain awesome]. Oh yes I forgot to mention, their families completely ROCK – I have never seen anyone tear up the dance floor like they did!

Here is a sneak peak at the gorgeous wedding day of the beautiful Rylan + Ari, which ended with a bit of show from Mother Nature…

Rylan watches as Ari signed the Ketubah. This one was beautifully designed - simple, modern and elegant.

As I said, Mother Nature thought the grass needed a good soaking that night...that 'river' is the bike path along Lakeshore.

Totally awesome party group...the dance floor was on fire! I have been to quite a few weddings with live bands, these guys were fantastic, I have never seen any band get the crowd on their feet like they did, great music and the timing of every song was perfect!

I was so looking forward to Farah + Cale's big day, not only because I was excited to shoot at the Hart House once again, but because Cale is the son of one of my favourite photography professors from university.

Farah + Cale are a sweet, down to earth couple, their wedding reflected their personalities so perfectly, the venue was beautiful and Farah did a fabulous job on some of the DIY projects she took on, the place felt so warm + cozy; a perfect setting to an evening spent with friends + family.

Why High Park, you ask? Because that is where they go for the after dinner strolls and because it is the place where Jason asked Kristina to marry him! High Park is a gorgeous oasis in bustling Toronto and I got a chance to get to know Kristina + Jason and shoot some fantastic images while at it...

I cannot say it enough; I am amazed at how fantastic my clients are. They are always willing to push the envelope with me, to try something new, and I am so absolutely thrilled they chose me to document their memories.

I photographed Karen + William's engagement shoot recently and was thrilled to shoot their wedding day. The April weather was brutal, and I think their wedding day, was the most bizarre April weather I have seen in a while…it went from pouring rain, to hail to snow, to sunshine, all the while being windy and cold…Karen + Will [+ awesome wedding party] I am so very glad you were happy to be out in the cold rain with me, and brave the elements, as I could not be more pleased with the results…smiles on, umbrellas in hand, 2 awesome locations + a group of fabulous, funny people = complete fun and laughter!

I love observing the way couples interact, how they are with each other, and trying to pick up the little things, those key traits that attracted one to the other…perhaps that is the reason I love photographing people…

This post is the lovely spring wedding of Joanne + Adam, they truly embody the traits I’m talking about, you can just see it when they started to giggle without saying anything to each other, it was just a look that set them off. This was a couple that completely enjoyed their day from start to finish. Their day included a beautiful ceremony, followed by some photos at Adamson Estate, and an awesome reception filled with Polish traditions + delicious food. Their guests were hilariously fun, the entire evening was fantastic.

Congratulations Joanne + Adam! ‘Sto Lat!’ [(One Hundred Years) is a traditional Polish phrase to express good wishes, good health and long life.]

Karen + Will decided to wait closer to their weeding date to do their engagement photos, and what a great idea, the weather was beautiful, the sun, just perfect, and we shot early enough in the morning that the street around the Esplanade were still very quiet and sleepy.

I love the results of this shoot...Karen + Will were fantastic and totally into the shoot and each other. Their wedding in the weeks to follow was fabulous, and I will share some of the photos from their celebration shortly!

I love couples who love winter weddings and I love them even more if they are able to stick it out for some photos like Sarah + Andy did...all I have to say is - total troopers!

This was my first wedding of 2010, and what a way to start the season, not only are Sarah + Andy a fantastic couple, but they have a gorgeous little girl who is just the calmest little baby.

I began the day with Sarah and the girls at the Sheraton Parkway North, which was full of some great spots for photos. We made our way to St Panteleimon Greek Orthodox Church, for a beautiful ceremony after which the wedding party braved the cold for some more photos. For the reception we headed to the Bellagio for some delish food as well as some serious dancing.

Sarah + Andy, thank you so very much for choosing me to capture your day...you are just the sweetest!

All right…this is the awesome story of Cristy + Joe. They met in NY, got married for the first time on top of the Empire State building, and had their Toronto wedding and church ceremony late last fall. They had the best of both worlds…an intimate event in the US and a huge shindig in Toronto!

Cristy + Joe are the sweetest couple ever, there is so much love there you can see it when they look at each other. We spent some time with the girls for some quick getting ready shots…went to the church…hopped on a yellow school bus…drove to Kettleby, where the bride, groom, their family and friends danced the night away…a truly fantastic wedding, with a totally relaxed couple…what more can you ask for!

It has been a busy start to the season and I am looking forward to sharing with you some more fantastic blog posts form recent weddings as well as some stuff from past trips that I have not yet got around to posting...over all a whole lot of goodness!

Thank you to everyone who participated and posted their fantastic ideas, you made my job very difficult in choosing the top five. Here is the selection of my favourite engagement shoot ideas...they are creative, unique and things I have not shot before...
Without further ado - VOTING time is here! So take a look at the top five entries and vote below [each IP address is only allowed one vote] Share the contest with friends + family. Blueprint for Love – 'My fiancé is a plumber who works as a foreman on construction sites. It would be fun to do a shoot on a construction site. Especially with me in a suit and him in his work clothes...I'd probably bring some props along that work to my personal interests, like wine tasting, and geeky stuff like my laptop and iPhone, cause you can't get them away from me. It would be fun to play off our differences in the shoot.'

Winnebago Adventure – 'I think the perfect engagement session for us would reflect the trip we got engaged on. We bought an old 1973 Winnebago, fixed it up, and then drove to Newfoundland in it. We broke down at least once every day and it was the ultimate test of a relationship!!! The Winnebago has SO much character and would be the best back drop for an engagement shoot. It's just like us: Quirky, fun, refuses to give up, sometimes has a bad day but always pulls through it!'

On The Right Track – 'I think doing the pictures in one of the accessible rail yards for example near the Wallace Street footbridge in the South Junction area of Toronto or near the Scarlett Road rail yard where there is a nice bridge over the Humber near Scarlett and Dundas.'

Island Fever – 'We would absolutely love to have our engagement photos taken on the Toronto Islands! We would take the ferry across, and rent bicycles to ride down the boardwalk, rent a boat together, go into the jumbo maze, walk down to the light house, have a picnic together and head back on the ferry as the sun is setting on gorgeous downtown Toronto. We love to have fun and we are both very easy going and love to laugh. This photo shoot would be so wonderful for us to have and to look back on 50 years later, cherishing the memories we created.'

Upside Down – 'I thought an engagement shoot featuring the theme of "You turned my world upside down" would be pretty special. I picture a playground as the location, and lots of upside-down photos -- hanging from monkey bars, doing handstands, etc. Sometimes both members of the couple are upside down, sometimes just one (a la Spiderman!). But the shoot would not only speak to the theme, but be lighthearted and show how much fun the couple has together.'

Aimee + Sean • Ryerson University, Toronto • Lifestyle Session

Is this an ad for Ryerson University? No...it's Aimee + Sean's love story! The couple met while studying at Ryerson and they thought it would be great to revisit the campus for their engagement session. Being a Ryerson alumna myself I absolutely loved the idea...we explored the campus a bit, ducked inside for some warmth and got some fantastic shots as well...

Aimee + Sean are super sweet together...and as you can see we got an awesome variety of fun, playful + serious shots!

I cannot wait to photograph their wedding this fall at Queen's Landing in Niagara on the Lake...so excited!

Avenue Photo at the Wedding Show...

All right...so I figured better late than never...and so I am sharing with you some quick [pardon the quality] snapshots of the Avenue Photo booth from the Fall 2009 National Bridal Show at the International Center. I am so proud of this fabulous booth, because I designed it myself...but mostly because the men in my life [my awesome husband, my super handy dad, and my always helpful lil' bro] made it come to life. It turned out so much better than I expected, so much so that a few of the other vendors wanted to know where I purchased my fabulous booth set up! [totally home made! ;o)]

The Humber College north campus is a total gem…the buildings have neat modern architecture…clean lines, lots of concrete…just lovely, but if you take a peek towards the back of the campus you will find the Humber Arboretum, which is a beautiful pocket of landscape design - if you are in the area, definitely take a stroll.

I wanted to start 2010 by doing a fun contest…so here is the low-down!

Who Can Enter:
Anyone with a creative idea. [Yes that’s you!] If you have already booked with Avenue Photo you can enter your idea for another portrait session, a post wedding shoot or a trash the dress session.

How to win:
Come up with a great idea for an engagement shoot. The more creative the better!
Simply post your entry as a comment to this blog post AND email me a copy info@avenue-photo.com [so that I have a way of contacting you]
Final date for entries is February 14 2010.

What you Get:

Stephanie + Eric...say I do! • The Venetian, Vaughan • Wedding Photography

I absolutely loved this couple...Eric had a million dollar smile, and Stephanie always had this flirty grin on her face...together - adorable...

Everyone got ready at the King Edward Hotel, Stephanie was super relaxed, even though there were 20 or so other ladies causing commotion around her...she was cool, collected and always, always smiling...She and Eric saw each other for the first time on their wedding day in the hotel lobby, from that moment on Eric could not keep his eyes of her and there was a perma-smile plastered to his face the entire day...

We wandered around downtown and got some sweet urban shots, and in the afternoon made our way to the Venetian for the ceremony + reception. The details were absolutely gorgeous...after a beautiful ceremony, some awesome cocktails and touching speeches, the night continued with a full on dance party...what more could you ask for?

Marilyn and Kent are made for each other, they are a kindhearted couple who have such chemistry together, when they look at each other they both just light up...it's just so lovely to see....I had a great time shooting Marilyn + Kent's engagement photos earlier this year, and was soooo excited to photograph their wedding at the Old Mill. Kent ran a bit late due to some, always dependable Toronto traffic, but once he arrived, the ceremony was the start to a lovely evening, followed by dinner, beautiful + funny words from the couple's friends + family and of course dancing.

No too long ago I had the chance to photograph Joanne + Adam, they are a hilarious couple who made me giggle the entire shoot...we had a fantastic time. We ventured down to the Humber Bay Arch Bridge area at sunset, which gave us some awesome light while keeping us warm-ish in the cool lake breeze. Joanne's eyes are such a captivating blue...amazing...and the last photo is for Adam, who has a slight 'obsession' with his 'rust-ic' V-dub. The photos tuned out great...enjoy!

This was another super exciting wedding. Marsa + Robert actually had a private ceremony the day before, so their wedding day was all about enjoying family, friends, and food. The day started off a bit iffy in terms of the rain, but after some passing showers, the sun kept on peeking its head out and giving us some lovely light to work with.

We started the day off at Queen + Gladstone for some awesome ‘urban’ shots, and wound our way up to Edwards Gardens which is always a beautiful spot for photos or for a stroll. The evening continued at the modern Grand Lake Restaurant with fantastic music and food.

I love love LOVE my clients…not only are they gorgeous, but they are fun + creative, and each wedding I photograph is a direct reflection of their personalities.

Vanessa + Jordan are two of the sweetest people you will ever meet. I loved our consultations because they never felt like work, but as if I was chatting with friends.

Their wedding day did not grant us the lovely weather the couple [and I] was hoping for in order for them to have a roof top ceremony at the Raddison, so plans were altered, plan ‘B’ put into place but the smile never ever left Vanessa + Jordan’s faces. The couple, their family and the entire wedding party were game for photos in the rain…and I was too…what awesome results!

All righty! Back to posting…our trip to Poland was fantastic [I will post photos]…got to see the sights, and my sweet grandparents, and now we’re back, and I am at the computer editing my little heart out in between shooting the last few weddings of the season.

Helen + Simon’s big day was AMAZING! Helen is so very very stunning [make up - Angie - 416 418 2909] and has a quiet demeanor about her, and Simon is the kind of guy that likes to keep busy and always has a mischievous smile on his face…I loved loved this wedding, the girls' dresses were so vibrant and flowy, the guys looked sharp and made me laugh the entire day long. It was a beautiful day from start to finish, the weather – perfect…we started off at the Suites at 1 King West, made our way down to East York to Don Mills United Church, after which we hopped over to U of T for a photo session, followed by a stop at College + Spadina. After the photos it was time to party, Helen + Simon’s reception was held at the beautiful West River Event Centre, and blooms were the awesome creations of Margarite from Nice Stems, decor by the talented Wedding Decorators Inc.

A Little Vacay!

The sun was shining, there was a nice cool breeze in the air, the location was rustic [Trillium Trails] yet so classy with the details the bride dreamed up…the day was Gayleen + George’s wedding…it was fantastic.

I loved shooting this couple, because not only are they gorgeous, they have an awesome sense of humour, and along with the wedding party, we had a blast. Gayleen could not wait to walk down the aisle…and once her and George said their I DOs the nerves relaxed, the party began.

The reception was full of sweet speeches, and some awesome dancing…see a bit for yourself…

I had such a great time shooting this wedding, the bride + groom were gorgeous and completely easy going, and the wedding party was hilarious, they had me on my toes and giggling all day long…results…fabulous!

Melanie has such an elegant, timeless grace about her and Pedro has this air of South American charm…awesome combination.

We started the day off in Mississauga at the Delta for the getting ready shots [makeup by Amalie Russell - 416 997 8181]…and finished the day at the scenic Piper’s Heath Golf Club in Milton.

All right, back on track with the posting...here is another beautiful wedding...this one was extra special because Karen and Matt are not only the sweetest, most down to earth individuals you will ever meet, but they are great friends of my husband and I.

Their wedding took place in Bracebridge, at Karen's family cottage, or 'Magic Land' as she refers to it. And it was truly magic...from the ceremony which included native rituals such as smudging, as well as the Hawaiian tradition of the lei which is the symbol of love and aloha. They were surrounded by earth, water and wind...with fire between them and friends and family to witness and celebrate this joyous event. We even got a rainbow at the end of the afternoon...just what Karen wished for...

Marsa + Robert • Humber Bay Bridge, Toronto • Lifestyle Session

The Bridal Show this past weekend went super well! I will post some photos of my swanky booth in the next few days, along with weddings which are now being worked on...so keep an eye out!

Marsa + Robert contacted me by recommendation from their friends [who's wedding I will be shooting this coming weekend] they have such a relaxed demeanor about them it was a pleasure to spend the evening with them for their engagement session. They decided on the Humber Bay Arch Bridge area, and we decided to venture out later in the eveing to capture the warmth of the sunset...the images turned out beautifully, warm, saturated and reminiscent in nature...love them!

I love Indianapolis...I lived there for a couple of years, went to school to further my graphic design knowledge...and that is how I met Aaron…and later Kristen.

Aaron is one of those all-American guy, your boy next door, super nice, polite and sweet, so when I was introduced Kristen, it made complete sense to me why she was the girl Aaron chose as his partner…she is the girl next door, cute as a button and just a lovely person inside an out.

When they announced their engagement I was thrilled for both of them, and when they asked me to shoot their photos, I was even more excited!

So here are some of the images from the shoot…we walked around the Canal in Indy, which is one of the many aspects of that city that I miss…enjoy!

I love it when couples have the kind of chemistry between them that is just electric. Marilyn + Kent were just fantastic to photograph, because that kind of energy was so apparent and did not disappear in front of the camera…We ventured onto the Humber College Lakeshore campus [that seems to be a popular spot for me] and once again, the weather was very vocal about the approaching rain…but we got in a fantastic session, with lots of great photos…
After a super fun engagement shoot with Marilyn + Kent, I’m even more excited to capture their upcoming wedding day!

Leily + Omar...say I do • St. George's Country Club, Toronto • Wedding Photography

This lovely July day started off perfect for a wedding [with the rain teasing us once again]…and turned into an exciting, danced filled evening! Leily + Omar complimented each other perfectly, she was simply stunning in her gown, with her dark locks framing her porcelain face…Omar on the other hand, looked strong and debonair. At St. George’s Golf & Country Club we shot some bride and groom photos prior to the beautiful Iranian wedding ceremony, which was filled with symbolism and payers to ensure Leily + Omar have a happy and bright future.

It was just flawless, the rain held off, the venue was beautiful, Leily + Omar danced the night away with their friends and family. Perfection!

As part of the ceremony the couple had to feed each other honey - to sweeten their life together.

I love this couple, this image, the light was just perfect...I love the moments that take place when the couple thinks you are not shooting and are just enjoying each other.

I love the symbolism of the items used during the ceremony: A mirror and two candelabras, which represent the couple and their bright future. Painted eggs, decorated almonds and nuts in their shells, all representing fertility. E-sangak, a special flatbread which has a blessing written on it. Rosewater to perfume the air. A bowl of gold coins, symbolic of prosperity. A bowl made of crystallized sugar, to sweeten life. A cup of honey, also to sweeten life. After the couple is married they will feed it to each other. A basket of pomegranates, for a joyous future. A large silk scarf or shawl, which is held over the bride's and groom's heads during the ceremony. Two sugar cones, to symbolize happiness. These are ground up together over the shawl-covered heads of the bride and groom to shower them with sweetness. A copy of the Holy Qur'an, representing the blessing of Allah (God), and a prayer rug. Trays of traditional sweets and pastries.

Gayleen + George • The Bluffs, Scarborough • Lifestyle Session

On a recent Sunday afternoon, I ventured out with Gayleen + George to the Scarborough Bluffs for an engagement session. The day was cool-ish, and grayish, and the three of us hoped the rain would hold off until we were done - it did! But in the meantime it allowed me to capture some awesome skies.

Gayleen + George were a total blast, he is one of those cool, relaxed guys, but when Gayleen starts giggling, George cannot help but crack up with her [they are just perfect together]. I had so much fun photographing their lifestyle session and am so looking forward to shooting their wedding in September!

They told me they wanted something fresh, tropical as well as elegant, and this is what I came up with...I designed it and once they approved it, I sent them the file for printing.

I love shooting weddings! This one was extra special, not only because the Christie-Ann + Adam are high school sweethearts, but because they are so in love you can actually feel it.

The day at the Majestic Colonial resort in Punta Cana was perfect for the ceremony in terms of weather + location. Their intimate reception at the Jellyfish restaurant was beautiful, with the water as the backdrop and candlelight to set the mood, you could not ask for anything more. The entire day was full laughter, tears, dancing, great food + friends and family. Christie-Ann looked stunning; the tropical location complimented her glowing skin and beautiful smile. Adam looked so stylish in his light and breezy garb, perfect for a Caribbean wedding.

Catherine + Brian...say I do • Markland Wood Golf Club, Toronto • Wedding Photography

Not too long ago I photographed the lovely June wedding of Catherine & Brian. We had such a fantastic time during their engagement session just a few weeks prior to the wedding, so I was very much looking forward to capturing their wedding day.

The day started off a bit gray but just as the ceremony ended the weather was just perfect: sunny, warm with lovely fluffy clouds dotting the blue sky.

The love was evident not only between the couple, but in every little detail of the wedding, from the cake baked and decorated by Catherine's mom, to the heavenly music during the ceremony played by Catherine's talented siblings, as well as the favours, hand made by Brian's mom.

The reception, at the lovely [+ tasty] Markland Woods was a combination of touching + hilarious stories about Catherine + Brian, that had everyone teary-eyed one moment and giggling the next.

Momma-to-Be | Sabrina

Not too long ago, my lovely sister-in-law, Sabrina, was down in Toronto visiting from Montreal, so I thought, what a perfect opportunity to capture the radiance of her pregnancy, and make sure she has some shots to show the little one, once she is all grown up. We spent a few hours shooting and joking around, and below are a few images from the session. I hope to photograph baby Chloe, when I visit the brand new parents in Montreal later this summer [YAY!].

I think maternity photos are such a fantastic way to capture the beauty and intimacy of such a beautiful time in a woman's life.

I'm Heading South!
